PM Modi News: PM Announces Ex-Gratia For West Bengal, Bihar Mishap Victims

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stepped in with financial support for families affected by two separate tragic incidents, one in West Bengal and one in Bihar, showing the government’s quick response during difficult times for these families.

The Prime Minister announced ex-gratia payments from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund, commonly known as PMNRF, for victims of a mishap in Birbhum, West Bengal. Around the same time, he also announced similar financial support for families affected by an unfortunate incident in Lakhisarai, Bihar. Ex-gratia basically means a payment made out of goodwill, usually given to families who’ve lost loved ones or suffered serious injuries during unexpected tragedies, even though the government isn’t legally required to pay it.

These kinds of announcements are pretty common whenever there’s a fire, accident, or natural disaster affecting a large number of people, and they usually come directly from the PM’s office as a way of showing immediate government support while state authorities handle the actual relief work on the ground.

Along with these announcements, Modi has also been keeping up with his usual routine of daily updates, including sharing thoughts on unity and collective effort through short Sanskrit quotes, known as Subhashitams, which he regularly posts on social media. He also paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and shared reflections around values like courage and self-respect during the same period.

This all comes not long after Independence Day celebrations, where Modi addressed the nation from the Red Fort, and shortly before his visit to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan at the end of the month, where he’s expected to strengthen India’s ties with Central Asian countries.

For people following Indian politics regularly, these ex-gratia announcements are a small but important part of how the central government responds to local tragedies, even when the incidents themselves might not always get massive national headlines. It’s also a reminder that behind bigger political stories, there’s a steady stream of everyday governance decisions happening quietly, offering direct support to families dealing with real personal loss.

As more details about both incidents come out, state governments in West Bengal and Bihar are expected to share updates on relief work and any additional support being provided at the local level.
