Kushner Holds Regional Talks Amid Middle East Tensions
Kushner Meets Regional Leaders As Middle East Tensions Continue
Things are still tense across the Middle East, but there’s also a lot of quiet diplomacy happening behind the scenes right now. Jared Kushner, a key figure in US Middle East policy, held talks with several regional leaders on Sunday, trying to make progress on more than one conflict at once.
One big piece of this was Kushner’s meeting with Hamas leadership in Egypt, where he pushed for a Gaza ceasefire plan that Israel had actually rejected just last week. He also met separately with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to talk about Gaza and broader regional stability. On top of that, Kushner was expected to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu too.
Meanwhile, there’s currently a pause in direct fighting between the US and Iran, though smaller conflicts involving Iran-backed groups are still going on in different parts of the region. Several countries, including Jordan, the UAE, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Egypt, put out a joint statement recently criticizing Israel for turning down the peace roadmap tied to this plan.
For people watching this closely, it’s a reminder that even during pauses in active fighting, a lot of important negotiation work is still happening quietly, and the outcome of these talks could shape what happens next across the region.
